Penny is a character I found tucked in the deep end of my pockets, Laurel sprouted up from the earth, and Max, well, I don’t know where he came from, but in the deep end of his pockets there’s always sand. Where that sand comes from, I’m not quite sure yet. That’s what I’m finding out through my fiction writing adventures.

Penny, Laurel, and Max share one thing in common; they follow me. They tug at my sleeve, whisper in my ear, poke my earlobe to see if I’m listening. Max brings his yoyo into my meetings and just barely misses my colleague’s forehead. Penny passes me notes on the fly. And Laurel, she makes eyes at the delivery guys. I’m at their mercy, and I seek the recluse of a place where they need fight only each other for my attention.
